Willow Oaks Country Club hosted the USTA Girls’ 12s Region 3 Championships, a national level 4 event over the Columbus Day weekend. Players from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland and Virginia competed in this prestigious tournament. The singles title was claimed by Ava Cantanzarite (MD) who defeated Mya Byrd (VA) 6-1, 6-2 in the final. Byrd paired with Sierra Sandy (VA) to win the doubles championship over Cantanzarite and partner Taylor Kopan (PA) 8-4.
Singles competition featured a consolation draw for all first round losers and all quarterfinalists fed into a separate four-player draw that determined 5th and 6th place. Third place playoffs were held in both singles and doubles. Congratulations to Taylor Kopan who was the recipient of the tournament’s Sportsmanship award.
Special thanks is extended to Salisbury Country Club for providing indoor court assistance on the opening rainy day.
